Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions about treatment, insurance, or what to expect during your visits? We’re here to make your experience as comfortable and stress-free as possible. Below are answers to some of the most common questions we receive from our patients.

01
Do I need a prescription to start physical therapy?
In many cases, patients can begin physical therapy through direct access without a physician referral depending on their insurance plan. Some insurance providers, like Medicare, may still require a referral or prescription for coverage. Our staff can help verify your benefits and determine what is needed before your first visit.
02
What should I expect during my first visit?
Your initial evaluation will include a discussion about your symptoms, medical history, goals, and functional limitations. Your physical therapist will perform a thorough assessment and develop an individualized treatment plan tailored to your needs. Treatment may begin during the first appointment depending on your condition. We kindly ask you arrive at least 15 minutes before your initial evaluation, because there is always some paperwork to fill out.

03
What should I wear to therapy?
We recommend wearing comfortable clothing that allows easy movement and access to the area being treated. Athletic clothing and supportive footwear are typically best for therapy sessions.
04
How long are appointments and how many do I need?
Initial evaluations are generally longer than follow-up visits to allow time for a comprehensive assessment and treatment planning. Appointment lengths may vary depending on your condition and treatment needs. Visits usually last 45-75minutes. Every patient is different, and the number of visits depends on your diagnosis, severity of symptoms, goals, and response to treatment. Your therapist will discuss an estimated plan of care and adjust treatment as you progress.

05
Do you accept insurance?
We accept many major insurance plans. Coverage and benefits vary by provider and policy. Our office can help verify your insurance benefits prior to your appointment and explain any expected out-of-pocket costs.

Can physical therapy help prevent falls?
Yes. Balance and fall prevention programs are designed to improve strength, stability, walking mechanics, coordination, and confidence with movement to help reduce fall risk and improve safety.
10
Is physical therapy painful?
Some discomfort can occur during rehabilitation, especially when working through stiffness or weakness, but treatment should not cause excessive pain. Your therapist will work closely with you to ensure treatment is safe, appropriate, and adjusted to your comfort level.
